I will give this book credit it is well written.A word on ACT therapy: It is Satanism mixed with Buddhism. Do not buy if you are a Christian and it actually made my problems worse.Yes ACT has a few helpful tips on how to manage psychosis but Christian counseling is actually more helpful for schizophrenia. No schizophrenia doesn't make you not Christian if you are a Christian with schizophrenia feel no shame but seek a different therapy. This actually made my sexuality more and more perverted and it made me spiritually weak and defenseless against demons.

I have the Kindle book, but I bought this so I could make better use of the worksheets. If you want to learn how to do therapy that is somewhere between CBT and mindfulness training, this is the best, most approachable book to get you started. It is the only book I have used so far in my brief ACT career, and I have gotten great results with my patients.

It is very adaptable and gives me confidence to use it with clients. My clients have responded well to the exercises I have used from this book.

I've been doing therapy for the past 7 years and had training in variety of treatment modalities. I am so excited to have stumbled upon ACT made simple. I'd had a few books on my shelf about mindfulness and acceptance, but the yawn factor kicked them back on the shelf. Not with ACT made simpe. It hooked me instantly and I followed the advise of the author and read it cover to cover before trying it. I'm definately an ACT convert and have been applying it with all my adult clients. I think I can tackle the more technical books on my shelf, now that I understand the concepts and use in therapy, as well as my own life.This book is full of ready to use metaphors that can be used in this experiential therapy. I love ACT, and it has made me love doing therapy again. It is so powerful and I feel like I'm truely helping people change their lives with this therapy.

MS was the company I was told to hate growing up. Ballmer and Gates were staunch competitors, to a fault. All they cared about was money. They stifled innovation.While some of these aspects were occasionally true, I've seen a sea change the last few years. Microsoft is now the company willing to take risks. They're willing to listen. They may not execute exactly as customers want, particularly at first, but they iterate fast and often. They're not as interested in milking the cash cow.The cultural turnaround is shocking... and welcome. Enterprises take on the culture of their leaders, and Satya has clearly left an empathetic, but thoughtful impact on his employees. It's a bit early to call if this will be a success - Ballmer and Gates were arguably successes despite their hardnosed attitudes. However, if he succeeds (and so far he's doing well) it will be a great case study on how to lead in business while still being a good person.

Fairly interesting book. I listened to this via Audible. Enjoyable narration, if a little flat. I've been in technology for 20 + years and I'm not sure who the audience for this book is. It's not for anybody that's in tune with the tech landscape in the past or the changes we're undergoing now as it's a bit of a hodge-podge high-level think piece on various mega-trends, most of which have been explored in isolation in other business book bestsellers over the last five years.My overall takeaway from the book:- Pay attention to the tech trends --Quantum computing, AI, A/R and V/R- The future will require deep empathy and strong organizational cultures- Multi-national companies in a global economy need to invest in a sustainable social contract in the markets they serveIn the same realm, Thomas Friedman's, "Thank You for Being Late" covers the same general ground and is much more compelling and insightful.

I have been working for a Microsoft partner company for nearly 15 years, and for almost 30 years I'm dealing with IT, most part of that closely working with Microsoft technologies. I have been admiring the transformation from the concept of putting personal computer to each and every home in 90s to mobility and service models nowadays. I passed 25+ Microsoft exams and have certificates, signed by all Microsoft CEOs. For all those years I have been sharing the values Microsoft was transmitting to its partner and client community - and I'm very glad to see its incredible transformation within last years, when Satya came to power. Somehow he managed to turn a huge corporation, running behind the market trends, into a vendor that forms and creates those trends, in just a few years.So, I was very much interested in this book to get more information on how this transformation is taking place. Those who were following Satya and e.g. his speeches on opening keynotes of Microsoft events will certainly recognize his style of presenting the information - humble, honest but inspiring. The book tells you three transformation stories: how Satya relocated to US, how he managed to develop himself to Microsoft CEO within 20 years and finally - how current transformation takes place in corporation.This is not memories' of the past - for those type of books only the past events are described. The book has its thrill and value exactly because the author puts reader in today's present environment, without knowing the final outcome, and trying to guess together what will be the future. Mata Hari is one of them. I've read quite a few books about her life, historical fiction as well as nonfiction. I've read my fair share of Hourly History books by now but I gotta say this one has definitely made it in my list of favorites. I would actually count it to be in my top three even.I don't know what it is about Mata Hari but her life has intrigued me for quite some time now, which is why I always jump on the chance to read about her. Maybe it's because she was a Dutch woman and as a Belgian I've always enjoyed reading about Dutch people from history but even more than that she led a pretty fascinating life and she made things happen for herself and her career by sheer willpower, which was unconvential at the time. This makes her ending even more tragic, in my opinion. I truly believe she was injustly imprisoned and executed, whether or not she really was a spy for the Germans or the French.So if you're looking for a short but at the same time informative and interesting book about the life of Mata Hari, this is definitely one I would highly recommend. It covered the life she led before her marriage, during her marriage, the start of her career as a dancer and courtesan all the way through the first world war and to her untimely death. You can absolutely pick it up and finish it in the same day, just like I did, even in just an hour. I took my time and still finished it really quickly. I enjoyed it immensely!5 interesting facts I learned:•Mata Hari also went by the names of Margaretha "Margreet" Zelle, Gretha MacLeod and Madame Rouseau•She was born on August 7, 1876 in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.•She was the eldest child and only girl in the family.•She married Rudolf MacLeod on March 1, 1856 who was 20 years older than her. The marriage didn't last and they ended up divorcing eventually.•Her codename was H21 (given to her by Karl Kroemer, the German consul in Amsterdam)

I was sure that this Hourly History book would tell me enough to decide whether or not I wanted to go into a more in-depth study of her life. In the introduction, the author states that: “As Mata Hari herself bent the truth to suit her liking, the story of this woman’s life will always be elusive. This is an attempt to capture at least some of it.”Mata Hari’s story begins as a very spoiled little girl whose parents lost their fortune, divorced, and left her behind in her early teens to grow up in poverty with relatives who really didn’t want her. As she matured, she spent much of her time and energy trying to find men who could return her to a life of luxury. The story is sad and yet very interesting, telling the story of a beguiling woman who was the experimental dancer of her time, became embroiled in the politics of war and died at the hands of a firing squad. It’s quite a story, and I very much enjoyed my time reading about Mata Hari!If you are not familiar with Hourly History, their books are intended to be read in about an hour, giving the reader more information than a webpage, but less than a full-length book. I’ve read several of their books and am finding them fascinating as an overview of people and events in history that I either wanted to refresh my memory about or get a general synopsis to satisfy my curiosity.

Like so many, when I went into this book The name Mata Hari elicited the image of a seductive spy. I hadn't even knew she was executed until I was in my teens. This short book fills in a lot of the life of Margaretha MacLeod later known as the most famous or infamous woman spy Mata Hari. Except she didn't realize she was a spy. Escaping a life of poverty she used her exotic dancing and feminine wipes to court a number of high ranking World War I officers who kept her and made her one of the wealthiest women of Europe. It was these relationships, politics and her perceived immorality that betrayed her. A fascinating book that will make you want to seek out longer versions.

I used to think that Mata Hari was a super spy. It turns out it wasn't her original name and she was just a spoiled adult. If you want a quick history of this fascinating women's life I recommend this book. I definitely would not invest more time in her life. It explained her life and how she got thru life by using mostly sex with every big shot that furnished her money so she could live the high life. she got too reckless toward the end.

Good short story of a high priced "Call Girl". I believeshe did pass on information that was harmful but, she didn't think it was wrong or didn't the it mattered. Mistake!

I have to say, it was painful to read because I resonated with so many of their stories, both about how some MDs have treated me, how big things (like my back being broken) were dismissed as "sciatica" for years, and the frustration of chronic fatigue, fibro, and migraine. Shoutouts to all the chronic disease warriors who contributed their stories. A must-read for every physician in the world, not just the US. It's a dense read (hence the 4 stars vs. 5), probably better for physicians than the general public, but anyone who identifies as female who has had frustrations with the medical system will feel validated reading or skimming it.

This book is incredibly well researched and sourced, and I believe it should be read by every pre-med, nursing, public health, etc. student so that they can see how they can exacerbate problems or solve them. I listened to the audiobook through my library and then came back to buy the book because I think it’s so important, I’ll read it over and over again. If you’re sick and trying to find answers: read this book. If you’re in the healthcare industry: read this book. If you have a loved one who counts on you to be their advocate: read this book. If you have compassion for the struggles sick women go through: read this book. This isn’t a book that will cure your ails or be a miracle in terms of changing the path your sickness takes, but it will change your life in the sense that you’ll realize that you aren’t alone, you aren’t crazy, you can do this, and with all the systemic oppression sick women have experienced, it’s time to raise our voices to be heard and treated with dignity and respect, even when the answers don’t seem “right”. This book shows how doctors have silenced and shut millions of sick women down, so much so that they’ve missed many important diseases and diagnoses that affect millions. This book doesn’t read like dry, medical non-fiction; I found it riveting from the start. The statistics are bleak and sad; the anecdotes are heart wrenching, but this book was written with those of us in mind who will hold onto it and say “wow, look how many women have had similar struggles” and how our doctors can learn to communicate, listen, and learn better through their patient’s experiences. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone and everyone that has ever spent more than 2 minutes in a medical facility.

This book is helping me to understand how I ended up not getting diagnosed with a life-long, genetic disease until I was 36 years old (despite having a family history and symptoms since toddlerhood), after the disease had taken much more of a toll on my body than necessary. More than that, It's a valuable description of how gender-based research and clinical trials can be and what the consequences and ramifications of that gender bias might be. I highly recommend this book to all women, anyone who loves a woman, and all healthcare providers.

Just finished reading this book. The book was very informative, not only on Fu Sheng but others (actors, directors and even location). He also gives you enough history to understand the synopsis of various films. My grandfather took my brothers ad sister every Sunday to see these movies and as an adult I have collected as many as I could. As a matter of fact, I was able to learn to comprehend the Mandarin language after years of watching these movies.I highly recommend this book for any Shaw Brothers movie fans and look forward to buying more as gifts for my family. Thank you to the author for his labor of love on this book.

The book is terrific. Full of fascinating details and background info I never knew, and the many years of research and recent interviews that the author did for this book are quite apparent when you read it. If you are a fan of Fu Sheng, Shaw Brothers, or kung fu films in general, you should definitely check it out.I have no idea what the guy who gave it one star is talking about. It's a wealth of info on Fu Sheng, and certainly not copied from Wikipedia! I happen to know for a fact that the author worked on this for 6 years and got info and photos that have never been heard or seen before. He interviewed family, friends and colleagues, and dispels a lot of the BS rumors that have been floating around on the internet for years. - Kung Fu Bob

This is very well written. It gives you a clear idea of Fu Sheng's life. It sets rumors straight. The last two chapters are the hardest to read as they deal with his death and life without him. The film Summaries at the end are a nice bonus. Terrance J. Brady does an excellent job with this book. I highly recommend it.

First off, the author used the wrong title for this book. Maybe at most about 25% of the book covers Fu Sheng. The rest of the book is like a bunch of info copied from Wikipedia and other movie data. He tried to talk about too much things that comes off choppy like many 70s Kung Fu movies. The little views in into Fu Sheng's life comes off like a poor man's Bruce Lee. Things like FS didn't like school, got into fights, etc.. there's no exciting things to learn on his life.Include a couple bad black n white poor uality copied photos.Not much more insight on Fu Sheng movies than what's seen in the movies...there's no real in depth interviews. Conclusion - better spent your time & money on the latest book on Bruce Lee. Bad, poor writing.

A great long awaited profile of one of HK Cinema's icons. Gone far too soon, Fu Sheng had potential that could've kept JC in the seat of a stuntman.

Though I have just dived in, this is the book for any Kung Fu film fan or Shaw Brothers fanatic. A few black and white pictures but many are rare off-set images.

I haven't read it yet but I must show my support for a actor I love and very happy a English language book is available and can't wait to get a copy. Thanks for doing this it was obviously a labor of love and Fu Sheng is a Legend and he was unfortunately cut down in his prime and would have been the biggest Kung Fu star nowadays I think if he would have lived. To fans of Fu Sheng this is a no brainier to grab this book and show some love for a legend.

I been waiting for this book for 6 years! this is a great tribute to Fu Sheng and his great legacy. This book is a true must for any real fan.

This book is so close to great, but it really isn't. The paintings are excellent, but the author doesn't really write about birds: he has clipped every quote he has ever heard about birds and has tried to scotch tape them together, and it just doesn't work.

Thoughtful, varied and interesting text, accompanied by gorgeous paintings. The whole thing is a beautiful production, and I intend to enjoy it again and again.

My daughter's 3rd grade class is doing a Living Museum, and each child had to pick a 'Who Was' book to report on for it. My daughter chose Anne Frank, and I was initially nervous about how age appropriate the content would be. I read the book along with her, prepared for questions and concerns that would arise,. I was so pleased how well it was written and adapted for young students. I think it is perfect for 3rd and 4th graders, but think it might be a bit short on history for 5th grade and up. It's definitely a great book to introduce children to learning about WWII. We will be purchasing more 'Who Was' books in the future!

I’ve been buying these books for my son and I love every single one. Most of the books on the series is less than 100 pages so it makes for a quick and easy read. I read a few chapters to him at bedtime and it’s something we both look forward to. Especially me for the cuddle time with my son as I know he won’t always want me to read to him.The story of Anne Frank is unbelievable. To try and picture yourself living in those horrible and horrific times especially as a parent is heartbreaking. There were pages I couldn’t read without crying. The story is tastefully written as not to scare young readers but at the same time giving them the startling truth about evil in the world.Since reading this book I am going to buy the whole story of Anne Frank.

I love these books! I am a 3rd grade teacher. I was trying to find some biography books for my students and I stumbled across these on Amazon. I bought nine different books and I'm so glad that I did! Most of these books are on a late 3rd to 4th grade reading level, which makes them perfect for my advanced readers. I teach in a diverse school, and some of my students are very interested in learning about African American people in history. So I got several books about African Americans to interest those students. It was great to see the light in their eyes while reading these books! I love finding books that make my students love reading. I'll definitely be buying more of these in the near future! 😊

My 9yr old daughter chose this as her summer reading and loved it. I was worried about introducing this awful time in history and had her read the book aloud so we could discuss it as she read. It was carefully written with young readers in mind. It takes you through her life story in a very sensitive manner. It allows the reader to understand the hardships she went through, without being too graphic.

Of course Anne Frank's story ends sadly, so I can't say my middle schoolers enjoyed the book, exactly, but they were definitely engaged and appreciated the writing style. They learned a lot and were curious to learn more about Anne Frank. I used this book as part of a WWII unit study and even though the text would be fine for elementary readers, the details are interesting enough to get middle schoolers' attention as well. (BTW, I highly recommend the Anne Frank house website as a companion to any study of Anne Frank. You can take a virtual tour of the "Secret Annex.") So far, my kids have enjoyed every book from this series that we've read.

We were covering American history this year (homeschooling family) and I was apprehensive about the subject of the Holocaust as our eldest was only 6.5 but this book was a perfect introduction. It is honest and we'll written without being overly graphic or inappropriate for younger readers. We used it as a read aloud so that we could address any questions or concerns and we will use it again with our other children as they get older

Yes! Very good and yes it leave's gaps. However those gaps open doors to a child's mind to ask more and research more. Honestly perfect !

We really enjoy this series and we recently added this one to our collection. I really enjoy them and it's a nice way to introduce kids to history and written in easy to understand ways. Really suggest this series and we own several. Our kids started this series in elementary school.

This volume is in the huge series from IVP on all areas of the bible. This book is a must have for any series pastor or student of the NT. I have used this several times in my study for sermons, papers, or just general questions I have had regarding background issues and the NT. I gave it 4/5 stars due to the need for a second edition. The editors at IVP have already processed the printing of a 2nd edition of Jesus and the Gospels, and I think it's time for a second edition of this volume as well. That being said, you cannot down play the significance of this volume and the series.

WHile this is a recent purchase, I have looked up several topics and have been very satisfied at the scholarship and thoroughness. For example, there were 7 pages of explanation on Messianic ideas and their development in the time of our Lord. Any Bible teacher of the Gospels would especially benefit in preparations by gaining valuable background information.

Tremendous amount of information. Very thorough.

I have purchased most of these books for my husband and they are all very good and helpful.I cannot elaborate on content, but he is a religion major and all of these have been super helpful and chalk full of information.

This book is informative and a must have as it helps to explain some of the traditions and perhaps what the author may have been trying to convey. The book is set up by chapter and verse!
