This first volume in Cara Malone's Medical Romance series takes one familiar character from the Rulebook series (Megan) and puts her in the spotlight along with Alex, an EMT trainee who needs someone to force her to want to really live her life again after a family tragedy. But is Megan really the right woman for the job? After all, she still feels responsible for the awful way her last relationship ended and doesn't trust herself with someone else's heart. Sometimes the heart doesn't ask, though...Once again, Ms. Malone shows us her prowess at writing characters with chemistry. Having read several of her books, I'd say she rivals the best in her genre at that art form. And, as always, the wit and humor, as well as insight into human nature sprinkled in at just the correct proportions, make the story a joy to read.
I was kind of wary of this story, with all the caveats it came with (because I'm using reading as my "Home Shopping Network"), but either it wasn't as angsty as I feared it to be, or the characters are so well written, that it all flowed naturally. I believe it's the characters, but maybe I was a little too cautious.Anyway, the issues they had to deal with were all logical from their back story, and they really had me rooting for them to overcome them.It is so different from 'That Old Emerald Mountain Magic', which is a light holiday reading (light in tone, but tackling really serious themes), while this is more serious, but only because of the issues it tells us about, and not for inventing drama just for the sake of drama.After finishing the novel I had to admit that deep down I knew I would love it.
Glad to see that Megan got a book of her own after being introduced in Rules of Love. Megan and Alex were both very different characters yet they each had equal amounts of baggage to deal with in order to get relationship started. They had great chemistry together from the start, only had to get through the push/pull Megan was creating out of fear of intimacy and guilt from her past relationship with Ruby.Overall, very well written and very enjoyable.
A very cute story but what I really enjoyed was the constant witty banter and flirting between Alex and Megan. Megan is emotionally unavailable while Alex has her own pain to deal with. Together they're better but can Megan realized it in time to save the relationship? Qn why is there almost always a character named "Alex" in most lesbian books?
Megan, a medical student and trouble maker from a previous series where she left a long time girl friend in a somewhat heartless manner. She is feeling guilty about her bad behavior. Megan fears she will always hurt people she loves. This keeps her from Alex, a young parametic student, who is trying to recover from her fathers sudden death. Megan pushes Alex away until she doesnt.
While I like the depth of the characters in Origins (Alex was especially well-developed, I thought), this is not my favorite of Cara Malone's books. I felt it resolved a little too easily, especially considering what Alex went through, both before and with Megan. I will read the rest of the series, because Cara Malone.
I did not like thos book, I don't know if it was the storyline of the fact that it read like a teenage romance book. As much as I appreciated the character background, I felt it was harped on and dragged on. I purchase the other 2 books in this series and am now trying to return them.
Dedicated medical students with lots of hard work ahead. Life shows possibilities when a medical school student Mets an EMT student during an autopsy. Both have reasons to not get involved. A great start for the series and lookin forward to second book.
