After not doing math for 10 years I needed a major refresher for college since I failed the math entrance exam. I will have to take three remedial math courses but with this book I am actually sitting here doing algebra! I will be ready to retake the exam and place in college algebra. I also bought the workbook and the next level algebra books.

This is a good basic textbook to prepare students for algebra. I purchased this to use during the summer with my son, to sharpen his skills when he was out of school and to prepare him for Algebra I in the fall. He's doing well in math this year, so it was a good purchase.

It just sits on my night stand. Learning things from it only seems to happen if you spend time using it.

The book fit the description. My child said that it explained the concepts very clearly and in a way that was easy to understand. It was a great deal: Barnes and Nobles was selling it for around $90.00. It was in great condition, even for a used book categorized as good. Pre-Algebra Sold by allamericantextbooks

As a history teacher I enjoy the well researched historical novel which author Jack Whyte masters with few better. From that perspective I enjoyed coverage of the daily ins and outs of the people who lived at the time period. Was shocked that King Richard the Lionhearted had some peculiar appetites which I will not reveal. But as the story evolved and the character experienced the milieu of which he was part I began to wonder if the book would ever end. Could have done the story justice with half as many pages. It seemed like an endless journal rather than a novel. Have read dozen and a half of Whyte's books - this only one which I was not fully thrilled with the read , just too long with no purpose for it.

Well, it turns out most of the reviews were right.I hugely enjoyed the first book of the series, so bought this one (#2). And now, at end, I've been trying to fathom exactly why Jack Whyte actually wrote it.The best I can believe is that he wanted a novel that depicts what daily conversations between knights were like in the middle ages. Literally page after page after page after page after page after page after page after page of conversation. Interesting characters appear, like Saracen assassins, but we only get the barest introductions to them. Battles are a one or two page affair.Furthermore, if you are hoping for a novel with cool Templar or secret society ("Sion") action or scenes, you were be totally disappointed. There is almost none.I will not be buying the third book of the series and do not recommend this one.

Book two in a three book series is as exciting as the other two. The author uses historical facts with fictional license to create the vivid world of the Knights Templar. I found it difficult to put down.

Good historical writer, well researched and very nicely done tale of the Knights Templar. Need all three for the whole story .Painless history lessons suitable for youngsters too ! Reasonably accurate as best I can tell.

This book is adventure into the 3rd crusade where the reader lives this horrific event in every detail. True to its title, the heart of this story is the display of honor in its most exemplary form. I recommend it to readers who enjoy exploring the higher qualities of the human spirit.

Very good book and could not put it down

I am still reading "Standard of Honor" and enjoying every second of it. Can't wait to finish so I can read "Order in Chaos" I have never read any of Jack Whyte's books before i started the "trilogy" but now I will be looking for more!!!

I bought the whole series before reading any, a mistake

Be careful when ordering that you get the right edition. The first time I ordered, they sent the UK edition. It isn’t labeled at all, you just start reading and notice that they talk about different healthcare issues and use a lot of different British slang. Reordered and got the correct edition. Frustrating though. See picture for different versions. UK is on the left.

I purchased this book because it’s well-known. Admittedly, I felt like it was one of those books every expecting mother should read and I didn’t investigate the type of content that would be covered. I found very little useful information in the book and certainly nothing was covered that wasn’t discussed in every app out there. I also found it annoying that there were sections on HIV, diabetes (gestational and non), etc—these topics do not pertain to the general population and those that do need information about these topics need an entire book and close monitoring by a professional to be at all prepared for pregnancy with those conditions. It felt like fluff to bulk up the book as nearly no reader could benefit from the included information, even if they had the conditions. Furthermore, the writing style is a little too cliche, filled with puns and childish humor. Just because you’re an expecting mother doesn’t mean you now talk and think like a child. The target audience feels like expecting teenagers, not expecting adults. Finally, there are a few areas of misinformation and, when I read them, it discredited the whole book. For example, page 155 under the Manicure and pedicure section it discusses cutting calluses and notes, “...(never mind the fact that the more you cut calluses, the more they grow back).” This is completely untrue and is written in as FACT! I won’t get into detail about how calluses form, but they don’t form because they’re cut away. They form as a result of friction or overloading caused by a biomechanical or musculoskeletal factor. I almost quit reading after that point and once I got to the end, I wished I would have.

I bought this book when I found out I was pregnant based off of my doctors recommendations. It definitely has a lot of useful information, however, the website is very similar. If you sign up for their emails, or I'm sure just browse the site, the info is exactly what you're reading in the book. If you wanted to not spend the money on the book, I would just just check out the website or sign up for the emails if you want the info on a weekly basis. If you want the info right at your fingertips in book form, then this is for you.

This is my first pregnancy and I was looking for a useful resource to educate myself on what I was going on with my body and what I needed to be prepared for. I really tried to read this book, but every time I picked it up it made my morning sickness worse. The writing used made me feel more like a child (which made me feel more out of control and panicked) when I wanted to feel like an educated adult. I ended up throwing the book away. My husband asked me why and I told him I didn't think it would be helpful to any other woman I know and I wouldn't want to give someone something I didn't personally like nor recommend.I bought the Mayo Clinic book and find it well organized and informative, and I feel more at ease about pregnancy in general when reading the book. I truly am enjoying that book and would definitely recommend it. In particular, they discuss what you need to think about when traveling which I found helpful when my husband and I were planning our "babymoon". I'm not sure if What to Expect did this also, I didn't get far enough, so I can't compare regarding this section.

I wish I have had this book when I had my first child (18 years ago!). Lots and lots of very useful information, specially for those mommies (like me) that are a bit apprehensive or anxious and get easily concerned. The information is presented very thoroughly, yet in a way that is very warm and sympathetic. The app is a very nice complement for the book, as you can get videos, picture, forums, etc. that add to the reading.My husband really LOVES this book, and he says it has been very helpful for understanding all the changes (and challenges) that I'm going through. He also loves to to learn week by week how our baby is growing and what to expect for that week. Absolutely recommended for all the moms and dads to be!!!

Bought this for my son and his girlfriend to read together as they take the journey into parenthood together. I read an earlier version 23 years ago, and this version is proving to be as helpful and interesting to expecting parents as the older one was to me. As I watch them reading together, I am struck by how this book helps to foster an immediate connection for both of them to their developing baby. Very cool when a book can provide important information and evoke an emotional response.

Husband and I love to read this together, as we feel it gives us a nice heads up on what to expect week to week. The Q&A part is also great, as there are many questions on there that we can relate with, and we get giggles out of some of the Dad components, which are really a nice add-on and make this book feel like its made for all participating members. Pregnancy really is wonderful thing, but there are so many unexpected and unknown components to it, it can get really intimidating and scary. Reading what others are going thru or have done thru is really comforting, and it helps us get our questions ready for our monthly doctors visit (there are so many things you don't even think about asking!). Its also been great to truly have a reference guide on what to expect, and what tests are coming up, so when they do happen, we are better prepared and can get to the core questions answered by our OBGYN. Recommend this to all expecting families, it has been really helpful for ours.

This book,too, is a good selection if you are into Asian or Vietnamese. I really like it the best of all Asian cooking - I believe you will enjoy this one as well.

first of all, I am vietnamese. and yes we share boarders with china and have adapted thier culture to our food. however, I skimmed the book and I saw an overwhelming amount of recipes with soy sauce. fish sauce is primary seasoning in viet cooking. the author does not also even distinguish the use of light vs dark soy.moreover, some recipes used shortcuts suchas the mainstream dish "pho". using these shortcuts are not only a cop out but also do not develop your skill for seasoning/tasting with REAL ingredientsthis maybe a good intro for noobs but there are more authentic viet cookbooks out there( but then even those phave flaws)

They are black and white photos of each recipe.The chapters in this book are: Sauces & Condiments; Appetizers; Soups & Salads; Rice & Noodles; Stir-Fries; Kho Dishes; Meat & Seafood; Desserts; and Meal Planning. Some of my favorite recipes are: Pepper Steak, Vietnamese Vanilla Yogurt, Tofu Curry and Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup.I really enjoyed Ha Roda's "A Vietnamese Kitchen". It showed me the similarities with other Asian cultures, as well as Vietnam's unique differences.

When I got this book I knew nothing about Vietnamese food. I like to cook and try new things, I have other books on Thai, Japanese, Caribean food and unfortunately I have rarely tried the recipes because it always seems like a big production. With these book you get simple instructions from the food you need to buy or what you can replace it with, all the way to detailed directions on how to prepare the food. And the recipes are not complicated at all. The Vietnamese spring rolls have become one of our favorite weekly meals !!!!I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of their level of expertise.

A Vietnamese Kitchen: Treasured Family Recipes is my first introduction to Vietnamese food and Vietnamese cooking. I have entertained using these recipes on various occasions and the dishes I've made have been a great hit every time! I get repeated requests for the eggplant chowder, the lemon pepper chicken, and my personal favorite Vietnamese Chicken Coleslaw, YUM!

Vietnamese foods are a rather recent development in the United States. The Viet Nam war introduced thousands to the food, and the Vietnamese people who came to America after the war brought their foods with them. Either American spices had to be substituted for the traditional spices or the Vietnamese spices had to be either imported or grown here.In this book Ha Roda, born in Saigon, has had to adapt the Vietnamese recipies to the American kitchens and cooking styles. She started with the basic recipies of her aunt Bac Kit, a retired chef. This book is a tribute to her family and to the Vietnamese that have been a welcome asset to American life as well as foods.

This is a great book for a Native born Vietnamese who has been in the US for 30 years like me. I don't know how to cook Vietnamese food but love to eat Vietnamese food and this book helps my meal preparing task a lot easier. I love how the author puts in lots of research and insights on the Vietnamese cultures. It is fascinating, even for a Vietnamese like me. Great job, Mrs. Ha Roda!!!!

I have been reading several books on this subject and this book offered that bit extra that I had not read in others. It was not a commercial written in a form of a book (Pushing brand products or suppliers.Even though they may give you a heads up on what works and doesn't. Plus there are references given in the back ) It reviews many different mediums and sizes that can be used n the art of Marbling, which sparked a bit of curiosity on my part. I would recommend this book to any one interested in Marbling paper, fabric or just any medium they wish to marble.

Brilliant book! I purchased it for my daughter recently, after finding a marbling kit I'd purchased some years ago when she was about 6. We moved recently and the inks were uncovered after being stored following our first few 'failed' attempts. It was thanks to someone reviewing some marbling inks, who mentioned that you should use a mordant as well as other stuff such as the author of a similar book that I decided to go ahead with this purchase. It's going to be a stocking filler for one of the presents I'll be getting my daughter for Christmas.So, searching Amazon and E Bay I came across this book which is packed with amazing images (full color) and techniques, as well as the tools of the trade and how to make them. We just happened to have a joiner working on our new flooring and some of the materials he was using (6mm ply) was ideal for making the combs and other tools. I purchased a large square container to take up to A2 sized paper, the chemicals required to do a proper job a new box of 10 inks and paper as my daughter wants to make book backers, covers for boxes etc. I'm going to research how to make our own inks as it should work out cheaper. :)I highly recommend this amazing book. If you are at all arty or love marbling patterns, this book will unlock a whole new perspective on the art.
