All of the “Know” books have been informative and easy to read. This is a quick basic background of of how we got the Bible, assurance of the accuracy of copies to the oldest available copies, thoughts on translation methods and the difficulty of getting the original language translated into modern readable versions. This is a helpful book for explaining to someone that is having problems understanding why there are more than one “version”. Since it is an overview, it doesn’t get bogged down in too much detail but offers “additional reading” if one wants to dig deeper into a subject.

Extremely helpful book. I think the most important chapters for me were chapters 1-6 which in a mere 90 pages summarizes the early Jewish canon, how the Apocrypha became conflated with actual Jewish Scripture in Christians circles via the Septuagint despite early Christians sources rejecting these books, how the early Church had a set New Testament before any council like the council of Hippo took place, etc. This book was exactly the kind of introduction I needed on this topic and I think it is a good stepping stone for more advanced books. Ryan has a totally rad Youtube channel as well and y'all should check it out if you like this book.

I have just bought the Kindle edition, I cannot comment on the entire book.But it seems a serious presentation of the issues about scriptural inerrancy vs Translation inerrancy.So much falsehood is being spread about the imaginary accuracy of the old KJB - translated as it was based on 6 partial catholic Greek texts and amended and added to from the Vulgate - texts being no newer than 1200 AD, NONE complete.Why there is so much resistance to using older and more accurate texts and MSS, using modern understandable language, and insisting on accuracy, NOT political correctness.Yes - even in 1604 when KJ made his demands on how the Bible should support divine Right of Kings when finished - the term "Long Live the KING" is never in any Greek text or any other Bible other than the KJ - and James was irked by the Geneva - the most honest and most popular translation of that era, making the claim effectively that if the king was a jerk - kick him out. NOT what you want in the text of the state Catholic church for a recently appointed King attempting to consolidate power.

The writing is clear and lightly playful, and its use of history is honest and forthright instead of weaponizing historical knowledge to further a view.The history of English Bible translations is included, and that alone is fascinating. Had no idea how important Tyndale was.

Great book for giving Bible lovers a short history of how the bible came from the original Hebrew to our modern versions.

Incredibly approachable book given the massive timeframe it covers. I LOVED both the commitment to the historical Christian faith and history itself. I found my heart warmed, my mind informed, and my spirit refreshed as I learned more about the story of the Bible itself.

Excellent book on how we have our current translation of the Bible and the many men who died a martyr death to make that happen!

This book was assigned by my professor in seminary who is also the author. This little book is a jem and I would encourage anyone who reads the Bible to read this book! It’s an easy dive, but deep in knowledge and clarity about the orgins of our bible.

I feel like I was slightly mislead about this book when I first started it, and so I started out this book with disappointment that just never went away as I kept reading. There is literally nothing to suggest that this book takes place in modern-day society, and yet it does. When I hear the words “viking”, my first thought is that this is going to be historical or set in a fantasy world drawn from history.Instead, I felt let down to realize that the books take place current day. The writing is addicting, and I did get hooked into the story, but there were other things that cropped up along the way that kept me from fully enjoying this book as much as I wanted to.This story is about Tess. She believed that she was an orphan and had been placed in foster homes as a child. She’s spent her whole life on the run, starting anew, and trusting no one but herself. When an ex-boyfriend (and old childhood friend she met while in foster care) shows up one day and essentially kidnaps her and takes her to a family she’s never known, her entire world changes.This is where the backstory gets a bit confusing. It’s one of those moments where you feel like a lot is explained in the book, and at the same time, feel like nothing is explained. There are mysterious children abduction involved, psychic abilities, and a nobody discovering she’s the heir and needs to learn how to be Queen with the help of two very fine gentlemen. It’s a very riveting premise that promises a MFM ménage in this book, but it just feels like a lot of the backstory is sacrificed for sex scenes.Honestly, I can take or leave sex scenes in romance books. For me, it’s more about getting to know the characters and getting a sense of who they are and learning the world-building. There are time jumps and explanations for things that get shrugged off and we, as the reader just has to accept them. I found it hard to get a real grasp on all the characters, and why they do what they do. One of Tess’s suitors is her childhood friend (and ex) called Harvey. Her other suitor is a man called Oliver. Everything is extremely rushed, and Tess is somehow immediately agreeing with everything her family is telling her. She doesn’t know them, and during her kidnapping to bring her in, she was drugged.Everything is brushed aside, and we’re expected to believe that everything’s perfect. Because the main point of the story is Tess getting together with Harvey and Ollie. It’s very disappointing. The story is intriguing, but the writing choices just don’t work for me. The secondary characters are interesting, and even with the fact that book two stars Tess, Harvey, and Ollie again, and this time with a MMF storyline…it’s not enough to make me want to read a second book.

For reasons still unknown by me, I have been avoiding menage romance. I will probably still be wary of it in the future, but I'm just going to write it off as personal preference and keep it moving. But THIS one? It was AMAZING.I was sucked in from the very beginning. The author's world building is pretty amazing. It goes back and forth from "visions" in the past to modern-day. Contessa is a Viking queen with psychic (and other) abilities. She's had a hard life, which has unwittingly prepared her to rule over and protect her small but resilient people. The men she loves, Ollie and Harvey, are so swoony! Each loves her fiercely, and wants to protect her, but also realize her full potential. These big, strapping, powerful men willingly come to heel, and it's breathtaking to read.The Sex is amazing, by the way. I think part of my skepticism (personal bias, let me just say that) regarding menage stories is that it will essentially be porn without plot. Um...foot, meet mouth. Because this author did what I didn't think was possible: she convinced me that three people could sustain a healthy, faithful, sexy, romantic relationship. The men are reluctant, but come to see how they are better as three (which actually is a huge plot point I won't spoil any further).There is some suspense, lots of steam, lovely romance, action...and my favorite bit: Women rule this world.The Viking Queen's Men is the first paranormal romance I've read in years, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

The Viking Queen's Men is an M/F/M romance that I grabbed as a freebie the other day. I kept seeing people raving about this on romance Twitter so I started reading it right away since I'm still in the mood for fantasy romance. The main character in the book is a queen of a psychic group of people descended from Vikings. She was stolen from her family as a child and the story starts with her return to the community. She needs a mate to help balance her abilities. What came as a surprise to everyone involved was she had two fated mates instead of just one. Why have a long triangle when you can have a menage instead?😂👌🏼 It had an interesting premise but overall, it was a so-so read for me. Both the worldbuilding and character development fell short for me. Glad I gave this a try but not planning to read the rest of the series.

I wish I could give this four stars, because I really like the story and where it looks like the series is headed, but there are too many editing errors. I started highlighting all of the errors I came across, which will probably mess up some sort of Kindle stats, for which I apologize. Also, this author (and her editors) really need to learn when to use "whom". (Hint: Not as often as she thinks.)I like the story, especially how Tess didn't immediately take to her new role; she has believable stumbles along the way. I also really liked how she dealt with Harvey and Ollie.I want to read more of this series so that I can find out what happens with these three, and what happens with the conflict that was introduced at the end of the book. I really hope the editing issues are taken care of in later books in the series. If anyone can tell me that, I'd love to hear about it in a comment.If you're not bothered by editing issues, and like reading hot sex, of both the m/f and m/f/m variety, plus a bit of the paranormal go grab this. You won't be sorry.

Sarah Sutton is the author of Is Your Museum Grant-Ready? and coauthor with Elizabeth Wylie of both editions of The Green Museum: A Primer for Environmental Practice. Easy to digest. Started piano lessons at age 35 and find this book really helpful to learn the basics of music theory.

This is a great theory book for beginners. There are no unnecessary pictures that distract students along with clear directions on assignments. Also, each unit was thought out carefully, and it follows a very logical and systematic order. I use these books for all of my students.

I use this theory book for my students who are clearly advancing through the lower levels of whatever piano course they are in. The book gets straight to the point, covering all the important concepts in an orderly fashion. No "fluff" like you find in beginner books but holds the interest of my 10 and up students.

10 cents per page. This book only has 60 pages in it. Was expecting something with more knowledge in it. Overall, it's a meh book. There isn't a lot of writing in it just gets straight to the countings and etc...

This volume from the 11 book set of theory books is essential to me in my piano studio. You can also buy answer books for all the volumes. In the later volumes this will be helpful. It is interesting how towards the end of all volumes except the Preparatory volume there is a heading called the "Four Periods of Music History". For the 1st volume all four periods fit on one page. In each additional volume the four periods are expanded so that by the 10th volume the information has grown to 6 pages.I highly recommend this music theory collection to all musicians whether as use in teaching or for personal use.

This is an excellent course. All five of my children have used this series of theory books and their piano teacher is happy with their progress.

Rob Miller makes a compelling case for Ruby as an elegant and productive text processor. The text leaves me convinced this was probably one of Matz's top design goals for the language. Ruby is absolutely a cleaned-up, sane Perl.I like that Rob carefully places Ruby in relation to UNIX coreutils and demonstrates many organic CLI workflows, with each tool used appropriately. I also appreciate, due to the very lightweight and readable Ruby syntax, the gentle introduction to parsers and NLP. This could provide the newcomer a conceptual foundation before venturing into more industrial strength tools (in Scala, Java, Python, Go, what-have-you).Rob is a talented writer and I look forward to more from him. One "star" subtracted due to a formatting snafu in my edition that is not representative of the normal high quality of this publisher.

The goals of the content in this book were very good. My only complaint is that the editors seem to have fallen asleep after the first half. Starting around Chapter 10 (Writing Parsers) the quality takes a massive nosedive, which is unfortunate, because this is where it starts getting deep. At times the code and text are out of sync, as if a code snippet was updated without also checking the text. It makes it difficult to know when you are not understanding something vs. poor editing.

For me, because I work with both Ruby and text, this book is indispensable. However, even if you only need to mess around with JSON or regular expressions in Ruby, this book is still absolutely worth it, because it's better-written and more descriptive than most web tutorials you'll find,

Nicely done book that pulls together a lot of topics related to text processing in ruby. Accessible book that is easy to read in a sitting if you are familiar with text processing concepts, but want a good overview of the tools that ruby brings to bear.

A fun book, with all sorts of useful tricks even experienced Ruby Programmers might not know. Serves as a great and quick reference to being more efficient with Ruby's vast Text Processing capabilities.

Manipulating text is one area where Ruby excels, and this book really plays to that advantage. The author states that any text processing script can be broken into three stages: first you get the text, then you apply some kind of transformation to it, then output the results. I like the way that the book is organised into three parts that go into great detail on each of these three stages.Part 1, Aquiring text, starts with the basics: reading from files or from standard input. And quickly moves on to how to extract data from CSV files, and scraping data from HTML files using the Nokogiri library.Part 2, Modifying and Manipulating Text, opens with an introduction to regular expressions (does every programming book have a chapter on regex?). Then it gets really meaty with a chapter on writing parsers, and another on natural language processing. I particularly enjoyed the section where the author demonstrates how to use the Parslet library to parse a Rich Text Format file.Part 3, Writing Text, starts again with the basics: writing to standard output, standard error, and to a file. Then it goes on to discuss serialising data to JSON, XML, or CSV formats. And the last chapter uses ERB to render templates into text files. Anyone who knows rails will be familiar with the ERB templating language, but I found it refreshing to see this used outside of a rails context.If you want to learn Ruby as your first programming language, this is not the first book that you should read on Ruby, but it would be a good choice as your second book. Or if you already know how to program and you want to add Ruby to your repertoire, then this would be a great place to start. I've been working with Ruby for 8 years and I picked up lots of new stuff. I wish I could have read this book years ago!

This book gives you a very detailed introduction into the ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) workflow, each one having its own part in the book.
