Just finished reading this book. The book was very informative, not only on Fu Sheng but others (actors, directors and even location). He also gives you enough history to understand the synopsis of various films. My grandfather took my brothers ad sister every Sunday to see these movies and as an adult I have collected as many as I could. As a matter of fact, I was able to learn to comprehend the Mandarin language after years of watching these movies.I highly recommend this book for any Shaw Brothers movie fans and look forward to buying more as gifts for my family. Thank you to the author for his labor of love on this book.

The book is terrific. Full of fascinating details and background info I never knew, and the many years of research and recent interviews that the author did for this book are quite apparent when you read it. If you are a fan of Fu Sheng, Shaw Brothers, or kung fu films in general, you should definitely check it out.I have no idea what the guy who gave it one star is talking about. It's a wealth of info on Fu Sheng, and certainly not copied from Wikipedia! I happen to know for a fact that the author worked on this for 6 years and got info and photos that have never been heard or seen before. He interviewed family, friends and colleagues, and dispels a lot of the BS rumors that have been floating around on the internet for years. - Kung Fu Bob

This is very well written. It gives you a clear idea of Fu Sheng's life. It sets rumors straight. The last two chapters are the hardest to read as they deal with his death and life without him. The film Summaries at the end are a nice bonus. Terrance J. Brady does an excellent job with this book. I highly recommend it.

First off, the author used the wrong title for this book. Maybe at most about 25% of the book covers Fu Sheng. The rest of the book is like a bunch of info copied from Wikipedia and other movie data. He tried to talk about too much things that comes off choppy like many 70s Kung Fu movies. The little views in into Fu Sheng's life comes off like a poor man's Bruce Lee. Things like FS didn't like school, got into fights, etc.. there's no exciting things to learn on his life.Include a couple bad black n white poor uality copied photos.Not much more insight on Fu Sheng movies than what's seen in the movies...there's no real in depth interviews. Conclusion - better spent your time & money on the latest book on Bruce Lee. Bad, poor writing.

A great long awaited profile of one of HK Cinema's icons. Gone far too soon, Fu Sheng had potential that could've kept JC in the seat of a stuntman.

Though I have just dived in, this is the book for any Kung Fu film fan or Shaw Brothers fanatic. A few black and white pictures but many are rare off-set images.

I haven't read it yet but I must show my support for a actor I love and very happy a English language book is available and can't wait to get a copy. Thanks for doing this it was obviously a labor of love and Fu Sheng is a Legend and he was unfortunately cut down in his prime and would have been the biggest Kung Fu star nowadays I think if he would have lived. To fans of Fu Sheng this is a no brainier to grab this book and show some love for a legend.

I been waiting for this book for 6 years! this is a great tribute to Fu Sheng and his great legacy. This book is a true must for any real fan.

This book is so close to great, but it really isn't. The paintings are excellent, but the author doesn't really write about birds: he has clipped every quote he has ever heard about birds and has tried to scotch tape them together, and it just doesn't work.

Thoughtful, varied and interesting text, accompanied by gorgeous paintings. The whole thing is a beautiful production, and I intend to enjoy it again and again.

My daughter's 3rd grade class is doing a Living Museum, and each child had to pick a 'Who Was' book to report on for it. My daughter chose Anne Frank, and I was initially nervous about how age appropriate the content would be. I read the book along with her, prepared for questions and concerns that would arise,. I was so pleased how well it was written and adapted for young students. I think it is perfect for 3rd and 4th graders, but think it might be a bit short on history for 5th grade and up. It's definitely a great book to introduce children to learning about WWII. We will be purchasing more 'Who Was' books in the future!

I’ve been buying these books for my son and I love every single one. Most of the books on the series is less than 100 pages so it makes for a quick and easy read. I read a few chapters to him at bedtime and it’s something we both look forward to. Especially me for the cuddle time with my son as I know he won’t always want me to read to him.The story of Anne Frank is unbelievable. To try and picture yourself living in those horrible and horrific times especially as a parent is heartbreaking. There were pages I couldn’t read without crying. The story is tastefully written as not to scare young readers but at the same time giving them the startling truth about evil in the world.Since reading this book I am going to buy the whole story of Anne Frank.

I love these books! I am a 3rd grade teacher. I was trying to find some biography books for my students and I stumbled across these on Amazon. I bought nine different books and I'm so glad that I did! Most of these books are on a late 3rd to 4th grade reading level, which makes them perfect for my advanced readers. I teach in a diverse school, and some of my students are very interested in learning about African American people in history. So I got several books about African Americans to interest those students. It was great to see the light in their eyes while reading these books! I love finding books that make my students love reading. I'll definitely be buying more of these in the near future! 😊

My 9yr old daughter chose this as her summer reading and loved it. I was worried about introducing this awful time in history and had her read the book aloud so we could discuss it as she read. It was carefully written with young readers in mind. It takes you through her life story in a very sensitive manner. It allows the reader to understand the hardships she went through, without being too graphic.

Of course Anne Frank's story ends sadly, so I can't say my middle schoolers enjoyed the book, exactly, but they were definitely engaged and appreciated the writing style. They learned a lot and were curious to learn more about Anne Frank. I used this book as part of a WWII unit study and even though the text would be fine for elementary readers, the details are interesting enough to get middle schoolers' attention as well. (BTW, I highly recommend the Anne Frank house website as a companion to any study of Anne Frank. You can take a virtual tour of the "Secret Annex.") So far, my kids have enjoyed every book from this series that we've read.

We were covering American history this year (homeschooling family) and I was apprehensive about the subject of the Holocaust as our eldest was only 6.5 but this book was a perfect introduction. It is honest and we'll written without being overly graphic or inappropriate for younger readers. We used it as a read aloud so that we could address any questions or concerns and we will use it again with our other children as they get older

Yes! Very good and yes it leave's gaps. However those gaps open doors to a child's mind to ask more and research more. Honestly perfect !

We really enjoy this series and we recently added this one to our collection. I really enjoy them and it's a nice way to introduce kids to history and written in easy to understand ways. Really suggest this series and we own several. Our kids started this series in elementary school.

I have used this several times in my study for sermons, papers, or just general questions I have had regarding background issues and the NT. I gave it 4/5 stars due to the need for a second edition. The editors at IVP have already processed the printing of a 2nd edition of Jesus and the Gospels, and I think it's time for a second edition of this volume as well. That being said, you cannot down play the significance of this volume and the series.

WHile this is a recent purchase, I have looked up several topics and have been very satisfied at the scholarship and thoroughness. For example, there were 7 pages of explanation on Messianic ideas and their development in the time of our Lord. Any Bible teacher of the Gospels would especially benefit in preparations by gaining valuable background information.

Tremendous amount of information. Very thorough.

I have purchased most of these books for my husband and they are all very good and helpful.I cannot elaborate on content, but he is a religion major and all of these have been super helpful and chalk full of information.

This book is informative and a must have as it helps to explain some of the traditions and perhaps what the author may have been trying to convey. The book is set up by chapter and verse!

From Abortion to Yuppies, entries focus on domestic politics, social and cultural change, people, themes of the cold war era, women's struggle for equality, and developments relating to the economy, demography, and technology. The majority of entries are biographical. There are also entries relating to specific events (Democratic National Convention; Lebanon, invasion of; Watergate); political movements, parties, and organizations (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Students for a Democratic Society); ideas; and movements (Anticommunisim, Black nationalism, Multiculturalism).Each biographical article provides personal data including place and dates of birth and death, education, offices held, and other accomplishments. All articles end with a brief list of recent books, as well as see also references to related topics and people. A more generalized list of recommended reading falls before the index. The articles vary in length from two to three paragraphs to up to four pages.Entries are extremely brief and serve only as a supplement to resources with much greater detail. This book is a scaled down version of the Children's Travel Activity Book & Journal (Bumper Edition) - My Trip to Alaska. There are no puzzles in this book., however there are pages to list the names and addresses of people you'd like to mail post cards too and pages titled, "What I want to do before I go", "What I want to see and do on our trip" and "What I want to bring on my trip." It is also smaller in size...6" x 9" vs 8" x 9".It has a very simple layout...space for recording the date, weather, "what we did today", "Some food I ate", and "What I liked Best" along with an area to draw a picture of something that you did that day. There are 14 of these sets of pages, enough for a two-week trip. At the end, there is a lined page titled "Things I will remember from our trip."Very simple layout but enough for a younger child...not overwhelming to have to do.Not sure it is worth the price.

Other than the cover that says "Thailand", there was nothing that made this journal specific to that vacation destination. Every page contained the same few items for kids to report on, and it looked worse than if the pages had been printed from a Word document and assembled into a book. We didn't use this item at all; instead, we used the Kids Travel Guide to Thailand- much more worth the money. I had hoped to return the item, but unfortunately it's past the time that it can be returned. I would NOT recommend this journal to anyone.

This is a total rip-off. Except for the little cloud on the front cover, there is nothing in this mentioning Disneyland. It's a thin notebook of cheap paper, with black and white pages for making lists and drawing pictures. The only color is on the covers. I'm certain that this is sold as a journal for every place people travel, with the word Disneyland on the cloud changed. It is nothing like its description. I'm returning it. I spent a little more and got what I wanted. This sure wasn't it.

I was even more pleased with this once I saw it. Small enough to tuck in a carryon entertainment bag. Has pages at the beginning to write what the child hopes to see when they get there. Separate page for each day to record what they did with space for their own illustration or to glue in a post card. My just-finished-1st-grade grandson is traveling to Alaska this summer and this will provide a perfect place to do a little writing, a little drawing, include postcards or photos, and have a mini scrapbook of his trip when he is done. Love it!

I was excited to purchase a fun travel journal for my daughter to use on our upcoming trip to Cancun. Unfortunately, the journal is very generic and not Cancun related at all. In fact, the only place that says "Cancun" is the cover. The journal pages are plain and generic with "what I did today" and "draw something you saw today" for 14 days. It is a waste of money. I'm disappointed it was not more fun and Cancun specific.

71 pages long. The front of the book is lined and guides some list making, the back is blank if you wish to continue journaling. Each day of your trip (up to day 14) offers your child a chance to write about the day and the next page page allows space for drawing. Interesting idea, but I was hoping for a bit more. Honestly, I could create this myself in about 30 minutes with a notebook and a just a few writing prompts.

I wish they would have show an example of a page, in order to gauge the age group this was geared toward. This is much too young for my 9 y.o. daughter. Will return and order a different one. For younger kids this seems to be good. Not too overwhelming - lots of drawing space. Simple design. Geared more towards 5 yo’s in my opinion.

My Mother wanted. a travel journal, for my 7 yr old niece who was going to Germany. The return trip was through NYC, where they would stay a few days. This is the cutest little journal and is great for allowing the child's personal thoughts.

It's not only one of the best parenting books I've ever read, it's a book all educators, coaches, and civic club leaders must read. Even if you don't have kids, you'll love this personal journey filled with motivation, leadership training, and success tactics practiced by Eric and his fellow SEAL instructors.Not everyone will be able to do the SEAL stuff, but everyone can do this: spend more time building relationships with your kids, refuse to be or allow children around "dream killers," and instill confidence in your children or any child you encounter by believing in and demanding the best from them--and modeling the same."Raising Men" made me want to push myself more, not just for my son, but for myself, too.

This was simply a phenomenal book on fatherhood. All of Eric's stories made me feel like an inadequate dad but I'm okay with that because it motivated me to work on myself. Enter this book without the ego and with an open mind and you're sure to walk away a different man.

I was hoping for more. The book itself is entertaining but Im skeptical on how much useful information there is on parenting. For instance, the son doesn't want to do his homework so navy seal dad smashes his skateboard and throws the ps4 into the pool and makes the son jump in to get it... a little extreme. The book is more seal stories than parenting advice.

Couple chapters in and I was hooked. I served in the Navy as well and use/have used many of the principles I was taught while serving in raising my 3 kids. Discipline, accountability, neatness, physical fitness, self control, attention to detail, loyalty, and teamwork to name just a few. Raising young boys to become fine young men doesn't happen by accident. You need a plan, and it takes effort...every day, even when YOU don't feel like it. This book will help you develop your own plan that meets your needs.

I get the marketing appeal by naming the book “Raising Men”, but I found it to be applicable if you are “raising men or women”.In fact, Eric himself has daughters and uses very good examples applicable to girls.This book has many valuable guidelines to help your kids develop confidence, responsibility, respect, courage and discipline, which are essential qualities that require consistency, discipline and leadership by ourselves, the parents.In summary, a very good book.

I enjoyed this book... a lot. It's a whole new perspective of how to do this (parenting) the best way we possibly can by improving ourselves first. I learned many valuable concepts and lessons, not necessarily parenting-related.And I also think it can be applied to any kid, regardless the gender.

One of the best books I have read on being a better parent and a better person. My wife is reading it now too I enjoyed it so much. Eric knows his stuff and this book is one I will go back through time and time again.
