Wonderful book and a great study of wolves. These people do not believe in hunting wolves from the air. Absolutely horrible that this is allowed in Alaska. A very interesting book showing how the ravens work with the wolves to find food so they can both eat. I loved this book and have read all of Helen Thayer's books now. I couldn't do what she does but I can live the adventure through her books.
I'll be saving this book to read again. Although I've always had a love and respect for all animals, this book awakened a real love for wolves in me. I knew that wolves were smart and misunderstood; however, I had no idea of the sophistication of their family hierarchy. Love, love this book!
I used to own the hard cover version of this book....loved it so much, I had to download the digital version!I got to meet Helen Thayer a few years ago when she was doing a presentation at the Seattle Mountaineers clubhouse to promote her book, "Walking the Gobi." She's a great storyteller and pulls you in so that you feel like you're on the adventure with her. I was amazed at the new information I learned about wolves, crows, and polar bears.
Great account of living in a remote location alongside totally wild wolves. If you want to learn how wolves live when in their own environment, this is the book for you. I loved every page. Charlie, the author's part wolf dog, comes alive on the pages, along with all the wolves in the pack. Well written, this book brings the natural world into your living room. I was surprised and very pleased to find the author's observtions about other wild life and the way different species interact in their own environment. Educational, entertaining and altogether a thoroughly good read. I recommend this to anyone, but particularly those wishing to learn more about the way wolves live and interact in the wild.

This is an incredibly engaging true story of a couple and their Inuit dog spending six months camped in the Arctic Circle in proximity to a wolf pack. The wolves have deemed them to be acceptable neighbors, all because of Charlie, the humans' "alpha," and so these "three among the wolves" are granted special privity into learning a lot about the pack's lives.
I adore Helen Thayer's books. Adventure, travel, incredible experiences. Three Among the Wolves was beautiful and absolutely riveting. Anyone who loves real adventure and travel writing should check this book out. You won't be disappointed.
