This collection of four board books is great for younger children, especially if they love the "Cars" movie. I purchased this for my 4 year old son back in 2011--he was about 18 months old at the time. We still have the books and yes, they are still in great condition. As you can imagine with a small boy, keeping books in good condition with him around is a challenge. It doesn't help that he actually likes to read. LOL The board books are perfect for him, because unless he cannot easily damage them--unless he makes a determined effort to do so. The books included in this set are "Mater", "Lightning McQueen", "Sally", and "Doc Hudson." Each story is told in the first person, and basically serves as an introduction of the character. For instance, in Doc's book he begins with "Hi, Folks! My name is Doc Hudson, and I'm the doctor and judge in Radiator Springs. I used to be a race car, but after I crashed, the racing world turned its back on me." He then proceeds to tell the story of how he came to live in Radiator Springs and his first meeting with Lightning. The story is really short, only five pages long, so the tale is really just a quick synopsis. The same is true for the other three books. All are written in a simple style, using easy-to-read words, and are beautifully illustrated. I see the product page has the recommended age range as 12 years and up. That must be a mistake. My son is 4 and he's just about outgrown these books. He still reads and enjoys them, but I would not buy them for him at this age. I'd say these books are good for kids 6 months-3 years old.
I bought this set because our 22 month old son loves cars. The books are sturdy and will hold up well in toddler's hands. The pictures are also nice. But I feel that the books are not well written. They are just narrating the character or story for each car but, there is no "story" to it. So it's pretty boring and there are only a few pages in each book. Our son loves it because obviously, he can't read yet and he just loves the pictures. But I wish they have written better stories.
Cute, high quality board books that gives a quick "About Me" for McQueen, Mater, Sally, and Doc (each one has their own book). This is geared towards the toddlers with vibrant pictures and short paragraphs. The books come in a nice little cardboard carrier with a velcro closure and handle on top.
I bought this book set for my 2 yr old son. He really enjoys having these books read to him. He also likes the bright illustrations. Some reviewers have stated that these books are a "watered down" version of the movie and they are. However, they are the perfect length for keeping toddlers interested. My son has only watched some of the movie so he doesn't really care that the books aren't more detailed. I like that the main idea of the story is told from rhe different points of view.
These books have helped up well to a couple of months (so far) of a toddler carting them around, chewing on them, etc. He loves them! They are not long books, so we usually read all four before bed time. I suppose there's a lesson in each book, too - but my kid's take away is "Ka Chow!"
I wish I'd realized these were board books for babies, not first-time readers.
My 19 month old loves these books. I would like them better if the stories were not written so badly. Barely literate is the best way to describe the one or two broken sentences on each page. Oh well, the pictures are cute and my son does love these books, probably because he's too young to read.
My 2 year old son LOVES these books. We generally read 2 at a time per his request. They are a bit repetitive and odd but he loves them anyway and that's all that really matters.
