The latest issue of this essential chemist's companion, but with little in the way of updates and newer compounds. The publisher needs to assemble a group of chemists to make major revisions soon, or this will become a historical reference rather than a current reference.
I'm a chemist. The Merck Index is a must to me.
A jewel, especially if you need the patent numbers of the compounds.
I've been referring to the MERCK INDEX since 1960. It sure beats Beilstein for quick superficial information on the materials of interest. The scope of this work seems to go up one plateau every decade; for example in the breadth of the appendices., and inclusion of the names of the new drugs.
We use this book for lab work with essential oils, it's a great reference and also gives you access to the online reference materials.
I bought it for my son and he said that he will use it for the rest of his life!
